New York Knicks 6 time all-star forward Amare Stoudemire still has not been cleared to practice. Stoudemire has missed the entire first half of the season while trying to recover from knee debridement surgery.
Amare was originally slated for a Christmas return in time for the highly anticipated Knicks vs Lakers game. That is now highly unlikely. Which leads me to my next question…What will Stoudemire add to the squad when he returns? The Knicks are looking like the team to beat and are winning more without him. I personally think the Knicks don’t need him. Previous reports suggested that the 100 million dollar power forward could come off the bench. Two sources with knowledge of Stoudemire’s thinking told ESPNNewYork.com:
“All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning,” said one source, who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks. “He’d be fine with coming off the bench if that’s what they want.”
Wait a minute…WHAT 100 MILLION PLAYER COMES OFF THE BENCH?! This seems to be the destiny that awaits Stoudemire who has yet to see a single tick this year. My fear is that he will come back and mess up the flow and momentum the Knicks have going on. I don’t want Melo and the rest of the squad to feel obligated to feed Stoudemire the ball and mess up the system they have established without him. However, Amare’s defense, the New York Knicks are a team that leans very heavily on the long ball. Maybe when Amare returns he can bring a well rounded front court game and help the Knicks become even more of a threat. It will be interesting to see how things unfold. He is in his third season with New York. The Knicks are off to a 16-5 start this season and leading the Atlantic Division.
